Reading first, gear second
Run the speed test twice: once on the device that struggles, where it sits, and once on a laptop plugged into the router. If the wired reading covers your household and the room reading does not, the WiFi path is short, and an extender is the usual fix. If both fall short, the plan is short. The household planner sizes that.
